Portable is an organisation which solves serious problems in areas such as family violence, death & ageing and youth suicide, creating the need to protect their staff from vicarious trauma. Portable introduced the Improving self-care practice and reducing vicarious trauma initiative, which includes training sessions to increase awareness of vicarious trauma, providing self-care plan templates and providing staff with time to process what they hear.

Since the initiative’s implementation, there has been a 10% reduction in staff distress and extensive engagement with the tools provided.
