Visa attacked COVID-19 lockdowns head-on by announcing there would be no COVID-19 related layoffs in 2020. This was followed up by introducing ‘wellbeing hours’ every Friday to enable employees to switch off from 1 pm, with no emails or meetings allowed after this time, as well as increasing the wellbeing benefit to $1000 per employee and extended it to cover home gym equipment and fitness apps. As a result, most employees reported their productivity levels are the same or better than when everyone was in the office, and the feedback was that flexibility had become the “new normal” at Visa.
